Project: A QUEER FEELING
Dates: June 2016 – June 2017
Location: MEMORIAL CLUB ,70 Main St, Winooski, VT
Description: A Queer Feeling is painted with ink and acrylic on the interior walls of Memorial Club, a nomadic project studio occupying an empty Key Bank in Winooski, Vermont. Inspired by the quote from Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre, the mural is a love letter to coming out. Self-referential imagery such as a dress and a cloud and large loopy flowers refer back to older projects that represent certain events, places and people. The mural symbolizes feelings of vulnerability and uncertainty that come with the choice to open up to personal growth and change.
I sometimes have a queer feeling with regard to you–especially when you are near me, as now: it is as if I had a string somewhere under my left ribs, tightly and inextricably knotted to a similar string situated in the corresponding quarter of your little frame. And if that boisterous Channel, and two hundred miles or so of land come broad between us, I am afraid that cord of communion will be snapt; and then I’ve a nervous notion I should take to bleeding inwardly.
