Wylie Sofia Garcia works in tandem as an artist and as a conservation technician conserving historic painted theater backdrops across the country.
As a sculptor and performance artist, Garcia engages textiles to document and map out feminine psychological compositions and constructions upon the veneer of everyday domestic items such as dresses, quilts, bedding, and chairs. By converging the space between surface and depth, between public and private, between performance and identity- Garcia creates a subtle yet powerful vision of contemporary feminist social narratives.
She is a recipient of The Sustainable Arts Foundation Fellowship Residency at the Vermont Studio Center, A Creation Grant Endowment from the Vermont Arts Council, and a Weiner Fellowship Award from The Kinkaid School, Houston, Texas.
